    Default 2015 e92 vs 2016 e92

We are setting up a 2016 L83 5.3 in an older vehicle. The owner did not get the ecm with the engine so we are going to get him one. My understanding is all the 2016s have the high lever super-duper encryption (I've dealt with a 2017 so I am familiar with it) but I was hoping to avoid it. So here are my questions:

Do all the 2016 e92 ecms have the same encryption as the 2017s?

Will a 2015 e92 work in place of the 2016 with no adverse affects?

Obviously we will be flashing the ecm to run in its new vehicle, just making sure there wasn't any difference as far as the sensors or harness that I am not aware of yet. Hopefully the only difference between 15 and 16 is the encryption and I can get a 15 ecm and make life easier and cheaper for everyone. Thanks!

Just to clarify, the only change was a higher level of security to reflash, there is no encryption on GM ECM's.

I have a 2016 E92 (Service Number 12672537), this does not use the higher level of security.

The only thing that can catch you out there is if the engine itself has some hardware changes that aren't accounted for in the earlier programs forcing you to run a newer ECM.

'Cheaper' and 'Engine swap' should never be used in the same sentence

Thanks GMPX. Yes "encryption" wasn't the right term, it's just the first thing that came to mind. I will use the word "security" in its place from now on. I will look for an ecm with service number 12672537 from a 2016 and keep my fingers crossed.

    And yes, I agree...

"'Cheaper' and 'Engine swap' should never be used in the same sentence"

But in this particular instance if Option A and B literally do the exact same job, but option A cost $50 more and takes more time, I would go with option B. HA! Thanks for the insight.
