Default Force MIL off with Bad ECM?

Vehicle is a 2008 Silverado. For the past few years its had:

    P0606 ECM/PCM Processor Internal Fault
P069E Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) Requested MIL Illumination

I haven't been able to track down the problem (checked the grounds), haven't opened the fuel pump module to see if water is in it. The truck runs the same as always and get the same gas mileage.

I just tried setting all MIL calls to "No MIL" but the dashboard light is still on. But it appear that i can write to the PCM.

Anyone have an idea on how to permanently turn off the light (other than pulling the bulb) or how to diagnose why it thinks there is an internal processor fault?

Hopefully I didn't just waste a license on this PCM!

    Thanks!

Every E38 I have seen with P0606 I ended up replacing the ecm. I only saw that code on swaps when the harness company tried using tuning software to change a truck to a car ecm or something along those lines. They were all from flashing the incorrect tune/OS into the ecm.

The FPCM can be accessed with hpt but not sure with efi.

I got the truck (used) 6 years ago. I suppose the previous owner could have swapped the ecm but the tune I pulled off looks factory with no mods.

Guess I better start searching for a replacement.

Agree, that is the only time I've heard of that code popping up on E38's, but given the truck has been ok for the last 6 years we could probably rule that out.
P0606 is usually and indicator the ECM needs replacing.

Pulled the ECM. It has two numbers on it:

    12612384
    12617630

A flea-bay search shows these were used in all kinds of vehicles. Runs around $100. I would load the factory tune (I downloaded a copy when I got the truck).

I found a thread discussing EFILive locks to the ECM SN not the VIN. Thats a major stinker.

Then I'd also have to do a crank relearn and theft deterrent relearn. I don't think either requires a trip to the dealer.

Actually, another look and I see them for around $40!

I always flash used E38's with SPS before using tuning software. If that ecm is not out of the same year make and model truck you can flash your tune in efi live. It will need to be flashed with SPS first.

    Ok, what is SPS?

I've been using V7.5.7 (Build 293) and also have V8.2.2.286.

    Thanks!

Interesting, I found this document: http://content.efilive.com/documents...ty%20Guide.pdf

    It doesn't even list 12617630.

Its the paid service to access OEM GM calibrations, it requires a J2534 programmer which range from in the hundreds to $2k + like the one I use.

Ah, guess I'm out of luck on that. But I do have a copy of the stock tune that I downloaded from the ECM when I got the truck.

You could type your VIN in to the website below, that will show you what OS's have been released for that vehicle from GM.
If your 'stock' tune OS is not in the list then it is possible at some stage someone flashed the wrong OS in.
