Thread: Force MIL off with Bad ECM?

Checked out that site. It also came back with the OS as 12617631.

Of course I see it was my mistake. The ECM shows 12617630 but the tune file does have the OS as 12617631 (12617630 is the calibration).

I can get the 12612384 / 12617630 ECM for $40 (who know what OS is on it) or 12612384 / 12617630 ECM that is reported to be from the 2008 truck for $100. Guess I'm better off with the $100 ECM.

    Thanks!

Buying used E38's without access to SPS is just a roll of the dice since you safely wont be able to change the OS or wipe out the ecm if the tune is not the exact same as yours.

Talked to a co that said "we only sell units programmed to the VIN # given so if you have a VIN # which shows that OS we will have a unit for you factory programmed with all 8 segments".

    I'll give it a shot!

    Thanks for the help.

Thanks again. I ordered it. May not come in until next week.

Then I'll see if the P069E Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) Requested MIL Illumination is real or not. From what I've read, the bed has to come off the truck to reach that module (I won't be putting it back in that location).

From what we've seen, the P069E cannot be disabled without an OS patch, so even if you disable it in the DTC table, it still sets the CEL.

It has to be turned off through the FPCM which efi doesnt give you access to that i know of. You can access it with hpt on some vehicles but it requires you to license it separately.

Yup Sn00p, I know that now!

Replacement ECM arrived today. I hope to try it on Sunday.

    Tried the replacement ECM today.

Nope, same codes as before (I haven't done the CASE relearn yet):

P0315 Crankshaft Position System Variation Not Learned Current
P069E Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) Requested MIL Illumination Current
P0606 ECM/PCM Processor Internal Fault Current

Damn, guess that means there is a wiring issue :-(

Any ideas where to start digging?

    Thanks

I found some notes I wrote down (from this site) years ago about the P0606: It doesn't necessarily mean the PCM is bad.

"When you get DTC P0606, log the PID GM.CPUFAULT to get a number that indicates the exact nature of the fault."

For some reason I don't think I could find that PID. I'll look tomorrow.
