I replied to the other thread, here's some more info.

For T42s, you have very limited 4L80E options. The only vehicles that used them were the Express Vans from 08-10 (iirc), so you have to see if your TCM OS is the same as the one used by the Express (trucks and TBSS you're ok).

I would look at the 08 Express Van TCM OS and see if that works with your ECM. Otherwise, you may need to change the ECM to an 08 so it can run with the 08 Express Van TCM OS.

The dead simple way to do this without playing around with the tuning would be to re-pin your harness and run the 4L80E with a 4L60/70E trans segment.

So not all.t42s being used with e38s can be used to flash 80e tune?
Reason i ask is because i pulled a few t42s from 06+ gm cars that were mated to e38s thinking they can be flashed without any issues.. sounds like i wont be able to use these.. is there a compatibility list of e38/t42s that can be flashed.for.80e

Basically all T42s can be interchanged, there may be exceptions but I've been lucky thus far. E38/67s and newer are very picky about what OS/cal can be flashed. Think of it this way, the ECM defines the platform (vehicle) and TCM comms protocol and the TCM needs to match that.

Remember the 4L80E wasn't used after 2007 in trucks and 2010 in vans, so anything after that is going to be hit or miss to determine if the comms that TCM OS is using will work with the ECM for the vehicle.
