Default Bought 2nd hand ECU from wreackers and has $0537 error.

    Hello,
Im doing a engine swap on a car and need to delete VATs off this ecu. 12200411 DFNN.
I have it powered up on the bench following instructions found in one of the EFI support PDFs. It detects the ECU in the tune tool as LS1B. But when I click read I get error $0537 controller locked with custom key.

I have tried ticking the alternative keys and assume faulty lock checkboxes but still have the error.
Is there anyway to get past this error to delete the VATs?
Wrecker wont refund for ECU since they say it was working fine in the car it was pulled from and I cant get any further bits from that car since its already been crushed up.

Probably safe to assume the PCM has been locked by a tuner, if you have time on your hands you can use EFILive to unlock it, although worst case on an LS1B it might take 2 or 3 days powered up 24hrs (which if it is on a bench isn't an issue).
You can set V8 up to cal flash in a new calibration once it tries all the unlock codes (like I said this can take days).
Enter in the values as shown in the picture and press start....then wait, and wait....
Oh one important thing is to make sure the file you have loaded up is the same OS as what is in the PCM as it is only a cal flash so they must match (you can check what is in the PCM using the OBD-II F4 option in V8 as well).

That's your OS right there. You need a file with the OS 12225074, just a quick Google and I found a bunch in here.

Thanks, I assume I just leave it running now for the next few hours/days. Then it will ask me to activate a license once its found the key before flashing my calibration with vats delete.
Once thats done will it just use stock key from then on?

Just out of interest are you 100% sure you set the start / end values correctly? You can see what you typed by ticking this box.

    Yup, 0001 to FFFE
    which is 65534 in hex.

I tried what they showed in that video and it allowed me to read the tune off it. Which is just a generic maffless tune with a some what ugly timing map.
I guess I need to try do a full flash now to wipe out that tuner lock.
