E92 and T87 calibration and OS reflash

What's the general guide to changing tune files on the E92 and T87? I thought I read that a tuner needs to be careful in swapping things around as certain combinations can brick the E92. Maybe it was changing the vin or something as it is stored in multiple locations?

I'm still having a no start with a swap car I'm working with(L83 swap) and I know the ECM cal is from a 4x4 truck. I'm curious about swapping tune files to one from a 2wd as this swap has a 2wd T87 cal. Basically to rule out any base tune issues I was going to start from fresh with files from ACdelco and drop them on with MDI- then restart the tuning process with EFILive.

What do I need to look for while do this? or is there no concern and I can flash as needed on both the E92 and T87?

EFILive has restrictions in place to ensure you don't flash in an OS that 'might' brick the controller, eg it will stop you flashing a 2015 into a 2018.
V8 has an OS lookup feature so you can see what it will allow to be exchanged, 2016 E92 example below.

I put in the OS I'm working with currently (12663390) and I get a list of OSs that are compatible- I assume all 2014 OSs.

Will it give cross year compatibility? say moving from a 2014 OS to a 2016 OS(12672612)? So still early E92(pre 2017).

The list is not built from vehicle year models, it is more the GM software level the ECM has in it.
It is also a compromised list, for example on an E38 if you were to force in 2009 software into a 2008 ECM it would corrupt and lock it, however 2011 into a 2012 ECM might work but we restrict that because the software is a different year build.

In the end this feature might save you from corrupting an ECM (these same checks are done when you go to full flash by the way), should you choose to try to force a different OS in with something like TIS then you can check the list to see how it 'might' go. In some cases it might be fine to swap OS's even if our list says you shouldn't, but then in other cases (like my E38 example) you'll end up with a locked ECM. So just use this as a guide.
