I replied but got a message saying a moderator had to approve my post, I don't know why.

Hmm... I wonder... Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks for running that experiment and posting your results. I appreciate the help.
Isn't it fun to run these kinds of experiments, and see what the results are?

Just picked up my engine/harness/PCM/trans/and T-case last night and saw that the PCM has 0411 on it. I am glad to see that it is a popular PCM because it means information will be easier to come across when working with it.
This setup was the right choice for me because I wanted drive by cable, and this 2002 Suburban that it was pulled from came with it from the factory. Having done some tuning on one of my supercharged Explorers with drive by wire, I still just don't like drive by wire.
I am still learning the GM lingo, until a few minutes ago I didn't even know what a T42 was. Now I know it is a standalone TCM. I figure it is a good choice to experiment with because reflashing it doesn't use up a license?
The bench programming setups look really interesting, I am really going to enjoy learning and experimenting with this stuff for sure!
Well, no, not really. Yes, flashing calibrations to TCMs doesn't use licenses any more, but changing the VIN doesn't use a license on any controller. Using the TCM was more a cost/availability thing, as I have a bunch of T42s laying around that I picked up for like $4 each when I was messing around trying to help someone here. If I brick one, I wouldn't care.

I have changed vins in hundreds of ecm's and tcm's. Do them weekly for swaps in certain states that require the original vin of the vehicle in the ecm for inspection purposes.
