    www.grisoft.com is where you get the AVG Free.. Gotta hunt for it on the site but its awesome I've had it 2 years now totally free (and LEGAL !)

    I like free and I was running out of time so I'm giving it a spin.

    lol, Symantec was tough to uninstall, it just did not want to die, but it's gone now.

    You think Symantec is bad to remove.. Try removing the AOL software someone installed on their computer when they did the full install.. I had a buddy that didnt know much about computers. He installed everything on his HP and then had problems a year later.. That stuff was soo embedded in the hard drive it kept re-installing itself when you removed part of it and then rebooted the computer. I finally got pissed off and reformatted the whole damn thing, viola.. AOL free !

    Yeah I vote AVG too, free is good.
    Use the XP firewall, that for AV and something like the microsoft spyware tool (also free) for spyware. All up zero cost and just as good.

    Yes they do ad up to FREE, but they ALL leave behind some pests.

    Also you can try fsecure This progrma was very good un obtrusive and didnt use to much resources http://www.f-secure.com/
