hold ctl down while plugging in the v 2 then select update firmware then
select the folder its in easy enough.

Yeah, the system will do what it says when you get it. You can choose to update firmware to support new features that are released over time. Generally new ECM/TCM support etc.
The odd time bug fixes too. If you keep to the official releases you should be fine.
