500Mhz is a very low min requirement. Going below that, and certainly 300Mhz is going to b very painful!

I (used to) run EFILive Scan and Tune on a 700mhz Celeron w/256 ram and a 6gb hdd, and Win xp home sp2. It is painfully slow, so now I make all the tunes on my desktop and copy them via flashdrive to a friend's laptop on long term loan and flash it that way.

Basically, 300mhz probably wont cut it, I dont think you could get win xp on that thing. I had win xp on a 366mhz celeron for a friend, and it creeps along, but is fine for the net, word processing, and the occasional solitaire but not much more.

Put a faster processor in .
But then you can only do what the Mainboard and BIOS is capable of .
Or if by chance you could find a Mainboard that would fit the Laptop case and had a faster processor .

If you already bought it give it a shot. First "strip" windows down as much as possible. No antivirus, no network, no screensaver, no energy saver, etc. Biggest problem might be that it will be USB 1.0 instead of 2.0? USB 1.0 is very slow on the communication speed.

More memory helps in speeding up everything.

You are wasting your time trying to get a 300 Mhz PC to much faster... Memory will help, but that CPU is light years behind what is currently available performance wise!
