Default LS2/LS7 Knock Sensors and LS1/6 PCM

GM should announce pricing on the LS7 Crate Engine next month. If it's not too severe in price I'd like to put one on my "wish list".

I'm sure I'll ogle it for a while but eventually it will need to go in my car.

Can you guys create a custom OS that reads, and interprets, the LS2/LS7 knock sensor output - so I can use my current LS1/LS6 PCM and the newer generation sensors?

    Just curious??

    Thank you.

    Cheers,
    joel

Is a hybrid OS, as stated above, feasible?? ...........

    Thanks for the reply, Paul.

I'm sure GMPX will develope a work-around as the LS2/LS7 transplants become more common. I'm in no hurry - I'm just dreaming a little bit.

Problem is the different style of knock sensor on the LS2 (but you knew that).
I know the LS1 PCM has a specific chip designed to filter and amplify the knock sensor signals, you can bet the LS2 ECM uses a different chip because of the new type knock sensors.
It is going to be a hardware issue, not so much the calibrations.

    Cheers,
    Ross

There has been what, so far, looks like a successful use of the LS1 sensors with an LS2 block in an f-body. The sensors are in the LS2 block. An issue with f-bodies seems to be whether the sensors clear on both sides when using certain longtubes. I guess which longtubes are okay for clearance will have to be determined. The sensors can both be placed on one side, however. At least one hole needs to be tapped. I've not heard of results of the same setup in a C5. It's likely been done but kept secret, for now. We will soon find out how it turns out with my car. Paul is looking into calibrating the knock sensors. I've only found it for knock sensor #1.

Here's some links of interest -
    Flat response Knock sensor (LS2)
    http://delphi.com/pdf/e/int_flat_knock.pdf

    Resonant type Knock sensor (LS1)
    http://delphi.com/pdf/e/int_broadband.pdf

Excuse my ignorance, but why do people want to fit the LS1 sensors instead?.

    Cheers,
    Ross

If you have an LS1 pcm the LS2 sensors won't work. If I have LS1 sensors and they work, why not?
