    Default Electric fan install

    Hi All,
    well...next problem, aside from this...

Whilst I'm deciding what to do about the above I decided to make sure everything else is ready to go.
Noticed the other day my fans didn't come on when I had the truck running and upto fan operating temp.
I got my multimeter out and measured my outputs from the PCM and they're working fine.
I used the 'force on' part of EFILive (which is fantastic by the way) to turn the fan outputs on and check them.
I get the low speed fan to come on but when I force the high speed fan on the two relays just click on and off like mad.
If I pull the relays and test the voltage across the PCM outputs I have a steady 12 or so volts (about 11.92 as my truck battery is a bit low). If I plug the relay back in, it goes back to clicking on and off.
When I 'force' the outputs on, does it completely overide the settings in the tune? If not, could that be my problem?
    On/off delays etc?
    Howard

That does not look like an electric fan Howard!

Replace those broken parts and get the Burb going, ease up on the torque managment, Try driving without shoes...

    Not sure with the fans....

    Howard,

Yes, the bidir commands override the tune settings.

Sounds to me like you have failed relays or some loose ground wires.

Ouch... ...that deserves an award for "most carnage in the smallest space"...

(was that a pic of your Suburban lifting the front wheels on a shift...? )

    Cheers,

Wow I see a stain on that rag that looks like Elvis , Ebay .
    Nice job !
Does sound like a relay is bad , if you have one laying around change it out and see .

    Thanks guys.
I've tried changing the relays around but to no avail.
All the grounds are hooked together and the problem exists with the fans not even plugged in so no real load (apart from the relays themselves).

I take it there are only two relays involved here , switching them may not be the way to correct it if there is two relays .
Moving the problem relay from one socket to the other , try replacing them with new ones .
When the fans are in low speed mode they share the same ground thus series and 6v , when the fans are asked to become high speed the relays just switch grounds and both motors become 12v powered then .

also make sure your on off temps are not crossed. I had my fan 2 relay clicking on and off and I changed the AC recirc switch and got the temps stright then all worked great.

    Hi guys,
tunedbyGM, there are 3 relays and I've checked and double checked my wiring. When I got the fans, a co-worker got the OEM relay block and relays for me with 4" of the original wiring and the OEM plug for the fan end.
He also got me the elec schematic.
I hooked it all up as per the drawing and matched the colours.
Hi Joe, I just used pins 42(low speed) and 33(high speed).
I'm using the bi directional controls to test so the temps shouldn't matter?

At least your near the end of the power train now Howard. Better get some heavy axles now so that the whole thing can be heavy duty.
