    Default Getting a stock 2002 C5 A4 .tun file

I am looking to upgrade my 2000 Corvette to a 2002 custom O/S. Problem is I cannot find on the internet a 2002 C5 A4 stock tune.

Question is my friend works at the local chevy dealership. Can I just read a stock tune out of a 2002 C5 A4 on the lot or will that eat up the remaining 1 license code on my flashscan?

If you can find a vehicle, you can read the PCM from any vehicle without using a license. It is only when you write back to the PCM that it requires a license.

    Default O/S Numbers?

Thanks Tordne I thought that was the case but better safe then sorry to waste $99 on a car I will never tune in the future.

Being I am looking to get this 2002 or 2001 PCM Stock read so as I can load on one of the new cutom O/S's. Turbo install starts tomorrow so I figured I would flash back to stock 2000 program. Went to dealership where my friend works and he loaded in the stock 2000 program with the Tech 2. Thought I would do a file compare to what was in the car (an old Powerloader II by Steve Cole) to see what tables were modified and by how much, however I couldn't file compare b/c a different O/S? Any way to get around this error message so I can see what tables were modified and by how much?

I do understand not being able to compare different year O/S but the same year? Any help is majorly appreciated.

I've got a 2003 C5 with Auto stock file, would that meet your needs?

    SinesterSS,

Unfortunately looking at the instructions for upgrading the O/S being a 2000 I can only upgrade to a 2001 or 2002.

    Thanks for the offer though.

The OS number determines the layout of the data in the PCM.
Each operating system may have any of the following attributes set differently to any other OS with a different number:

    1. Location of the data.
    2. Size of the data (number of row/columns)
    3. Scaling of the data.
    4. Data may exists in some OSs that does not exist in other OSs

When we compare two calibrations from the same OS EFILive "knows" that every calibration is in the same place, is the same size and the same scale as the comparison OS. The comparison algorithms are not complex.

When comparing calibrations from different OSs a far more complicated comparison alogrithm is required. Not to say its impossible, just that it is not implemented in EFILive yet. It will be, it is a good feature to be able to compare different OSs.

We expect to have that feature in V8, which is our next major release.

    Regards
    Paul

    Talk about V8 already...

That sounds like a great version (for obvious reasons). When you get there I don't think you should go past it, even if you have version numbers like V8.127.64.

    Paul,

Thanks for the response. Totally understand the complexity now of a file compare for different O/S. Just learning and not actually tuning yet so this would have helped, but I will just do it the old fashioned way with excel and copy and paste.

By the way adding that feature into the next major release of V8 will be a great feature.

Looking forward to the EFILive 101 classes!!!

Meanwhle, a very rudimentary compare can be done as follows:

Run two versions of EFILive Tuning Tool at the same time and load in two different operating systems.
Use Alt+Tab to swap between the two instances of the software.
