I knew you were going to say that...

I actually tried getting a 3 LCD dash (from a wreckers - they are like $1200 new), but realised that the mileage is actually stored in the dash module. Really didn't want to add another 20000 kms to the car just for a dash.

    Cheers,

To get long life from your in-tank fuel pump (which is cooled by being immersed), I suggest never letting your tank go below 1/4 full.
    If you can help it.

Of course, it is alot of fun dropping your tank to replace the fuel pump...
Also, it gives you a perfectly reasonable excuse to buy more tools.

    Good point... Chicken game over.

I'll just have to full up every 3 days instead of 5.

As an aside, man, the price of petrol down here (NZ) at the moment is ridiculous. It's around the $1.40 per litre (for 98 octane). What's the price like up in the US?

Around US$2.60/gallon in So. Calif., and poised to go up.
It hit US$2.95 a few months back.
It was well under US$2.00 two years ago.
    Other states are cheaper.
It's still cheaper than AUS or NZ, but it is increasing too sharply.

Actually, I'm serious about it being fun to pull your car apart...
You learn new things every time you do this.

    It's $2.45/gal. for 93 octane where I'm at. I guess that's like $0.65/liter??

It's a sad day when you do start to think about not wanting to drive something with 5.7L because of the price of fuel, but, I actually sympathise more for those in Europe where the prices are even higher than what I am paying here in Aus.
Put yourself in my shoes, would your LS1 be as much fun if you were paying nearly $5/gal like I am!!.
Damn, what can we do about it??.

Do what I do - every morning when I pass the Honda Insight hybrid car on the interstate, I downshift into 3rd gear and stomp on it.

It's called flagrant American waste - on purpose, I waste all the fuel that Honda driving fool trys to save. Perhaps I should thank him for sacrificing his driving machine so that I can waste his saved fuel. In the end, it all balances out.

Automobiles are not transportation from Point A to Point B. They are works of art, status symbols and toys. Freaking imports have nearly ruined the American V8 gearhead culture. As the fuel sipping import sales go up, V8 populations will go down. Thus, the net effect is there will still be fuel for us true car lovers.

If gas were $10/gallon, I'd still floor it past that stupid electric car which in reality is a bigger cost to society with its nasty toxic battery packs, etc.

There's only so much oil left in the world; I'm going to use my fair share.

Did not Mad Max have the last of the blown interceptors in the land of no fuel? Seems to me it still ran just fine - be Max.... 8)

Who needs a MAP sensor on a supercharged LS6 anyway.
