    Default Upgrading to Commercial...

OK, and yeah, I'm still deciding which to buy, HPT or EFIL...
Anyway I will be ordering one or the other today, but...
I am interested in the custom os's...
HPT charges and lets the os be upgraded...
EFILive , as I seem to read it, needs an upgrade from Personal to Commercial.
I have searched the site and can not find out how to do this, or how much it costs.
So I am looking for how much and how to do it.
    tnx

    Wolfie,

    Welcome to the Forum...

    What vehicle do you have...?

If you have a non-CAN vehicle, then you could go with V1 Commercial:
    http://www.efilive.com/pc-37-15-flas...ommercial.aspx

This allows you to flash a custom OS (COS's are free).

Be aware that COS's are not available for all vehicles...
    ('99+ C5 Corvette and '99+ Camaro/Firebird are the easiest).

There's a tutorial on how to COS (3rd one down):
    http://www.efilive.com/download.aspx#downloads7

Also, there's lots of COS help on this forum...
    http://forum.efilive.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27
    Cheers,
    Joe

I think your 2007 Express uses CAN, in which case you'll need V2 (which can do COS's).

    Thanks for the info...
I'm just opening the box now...
It was sitting here when I got in this evening... the V2.
Now... to figure out how to use it.

    Wolfie,

    Wow... that was quick...

Install the software and read the pdf manuals for the scantool and tunetool.

    Then read the AutoVE tutorial.

Get very familiar with the scantool since [as you would already know] this lets you see what the PCM sees (PIDs, DTC's, Mode $6 info); the scantool also has bidirectional controls which allow you to varify that various relays/solenoids are operational.

Play with the tunetool (e.g. change fan temps, shift points, etc, do a cal only flash, take some logs and compare to changes made)... get comfortable with the various tables in your calibation.

If you want to do a COS, first get familair with your logs and current tune; make sure the engine is running right (tune-wise, electrically, mechanicaly) before jumping to a COS; read the COS tutorial and COS threads first.

Just a note: Black Box Logging is currently undergoing beta testing/debugging... so for now, avoid BB mode... just use passthru mode with a laptop.

There's a lot to learn, but we all need a hobby that will take up our time... keeps us out of trouble....

    Cheers,
    Joe

I installed the software on my van laptop just a bit ago.
I have plenty of time to play with it, as I put on over 10,000 miles
a month. 130,000 miles a year actually. So I wanted it to attempt
to make an increase in miles per gallon. I had originally looked at the
handhelds, but decided there wasn't any real benefit. I had decided on
HP, but as EFILive offers the software, and tuning files for anyone to
see and play with, and then HP just says "trust me, we are better", but
offers nothing to see.... well EFILive got my money. I do have one quick
question though... The PE delay in my van is set at 60, is there more to
do than change it to 0? (Just for a start, I hate that feature!)
Thanks gain for the quick response!
    Merry Christmas
    Ed

The PE delay at 60 had to be a mistake in the factory cal. You can set that to 0, which will cause PE mode to be invoked as soon as all the trigger conditions are met (TP% etc).

Unfortunately, not a mistake. Every 2500/3500 gas vehicle has a 60 second delay with an RPM bypass that is unattainable...
