Default Disabling post CAT oxygen sensor DTC? Possible?

My friend has a 1998 Astro with the 4.3 vortec. The PCM keeps kicking up a CAT fault. This was confirmed when we found that most of the CAT had collapsed and gone travelling down the rest of the exhaust system
Since the CAT is not needed to pass out yearly inspection (MOT) in the UK, his mechanic says "he will apply to get code to reset system so basically disables sensor after the cat. The licence he is applying for is to allow him to access the system for the v6 vortec from efi live so the PCM wont flash the faulty CAT code".

Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Never heard of this myself, but we all have to learn

    Thanks for any reply.
    Andy.

    Default disable post cats

yes you can disable the post cats... under engine diagnostics process DTC enablers, change anything to do with bank 1 or 2 sensor 2 to NOT REPORTED...

Then under the MIL enablers again change anything with bank 1 or 2 sensor 2 to NO MIL...

That will stop the check engine light from coming on...
