    Default Importance of VSS?

Does the VSS play any part in fueling or ignition? Specifically: A friend of mine wants to do a Turbocharged 6.0L with a TH400 trans in a 68 Camaro. I know this non-computer contolled trans deal has been done before---But not by me! So--Will tuning be straight forward without a VSS signal? If he does this project, it will run a 12200411 PCM and COS#3.

Im guessing he will have problems with the throttle follower, etc as you would guess.

I dont see where it would affect the fuel.. but I'm a newb.

If nothing else, there is a device that is commonly used on s10 v8 swaps that sends an electronic vss signal as well as ability to hook up a cabled speedo. I think jegs sells it, I'm sure summit would sell it as well.

This recommended option does require you to have a reluctor on the output shaft of the T400 and a speed sensor. Is this a newer T400?

I wasn't aware of a T400 with a VSS. He has been drag racing/hot rodding for years. So he has a stash of TH400s.

    Thanks guys,

I have seen that Speedo cable/VSS deal before. I'm trying to talk him into a 4L80e. With the 80e he could handle huge power and still get great cruising mileage in the Camaro.

I've gotten a couple of those from Howell Engineering over the years. They do work.
With the 400, he needs to run a 2.73 or so, even maybe a 2.56.
Lots of the camaro/nova rears from that era used the 2.73 or 2.56. Very common. I've got a couple laying behind my garage, in GA of course.
