Default Upgrading to different yr op. system and traction control

The 2000 and up C5 corvettes came with an updated traction control system. Was this new system a software upgrade or hardware upgrade or both? So if we upgrade from a 99 operating system will it be OK for the traction control system? If it was only a software upgrade, do we get the benefit of a better traction control system. If it was a hardware upgrade, are there any compatibility issues?

I want to say I saw this discussion somewhere before. Maybe the C5forum.com? Anyway, I was under the impression parts or most of the traction control system is managed through the BCM. It's very possible that the BCM was upgraded as well as the software in the PCM. Unfortunately, I don't know my ass from my elbow on this one.
