MAF Patch Question

From what I understand the MAF patch allows the MAF to read higher Hz.
But what happens when the Hz gets above 12,200 hz without the patch? vs. with the patch?
I noticed on my car when I get above 12,200, it logs the higher frequency, but only applies the g/sec of the value that is the 12,200 cell.

Without the patch the ECM uses rouge values, the patch limits the lookup within range of the MAF.
