Thread: I have a 2000 F-Body; should I change to a 2001 or 2002 OS?

    Default I have a 2000 F-Body; should I change to a 2001 or 2002 OS?

I'm fairly stock (airlid, Donaldson air filter and SLP dual-dual exhuast) and am about to start tuning. I plan on keeping the MAF and all emissions equipment. Aside from getting rid of the backup VE table, are there any advantages to switching to a 2001 or 2002 OS? If so, which year (and perhaps OS) would be a good choice? My stock 2000 OS is 9381344 (and I guess the 2002 F-Body/Y-Body OS is 12212156).

The 01-02 Fbod os's make VE tuning a bit easier because they don't have the backup ve table. The biggest reason I can justify the upgrade is if you plan to run a custom OS. The custom OS's have a lot of nice features and are worth upgrading to even if you do plan to run the MAF

I notice a overall difference just updating from my 99 to a 01 O.S. without tuning, of course i change the injectors and things of this nature to work right but it seems the truck runs a whole lot better.

87GMC- did you use the 2002 file I sent you? If so, how did it work?

Are there differences between 2001 and 2002 OS's...?
Do I have any reason to flash a 2002 OS...?

Ahh! I didn't realize I could use a custom OS and keep my MAF.

Last night I spent a couple of hours doing a side-by-side comparison of my stock 2000 (OS 9381344) calibration against a stock 2002 (OS 12212156). This was fairly interesting. As one might expect, there are a lot of changed parameters. But there are also some that were removed and a lot that were added (e.g. {B3653} Piston Protection MAP Limit).

I copied the following from my 2000 into the 2002:
    • {B4001} Injector Flow Rate
    • {B1301} EGR System Enable
    • {C6001} Engine DTC Processing Enablers [list:af6f23e13e]
    • {P0106} Mainfold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Performance
    • {P0401} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Performance
    • {P0404} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance
    • {P0405} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor A Circuit Low Voltage
    • {P1404} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance
[*] {C6002} Engine DTC MIL Enablers
    • {P0106} Mainfold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Performance
    • {P0401} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Performance
    • {P0404} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance
    • {P0405} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor A Circuit Low Voltage
    • {P1404} Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance
[/list:u:af6f23e13e] as well as my normal changes (CAGS, gears, speed limiter and fans). I did a test flash and then a flash and went for a test drive; everything looks fine. I figure I'll drive around for a few days and then collect a set of baseline LTFTs and then start in on the main VE table.

(For some reason, the word "slick" comes to mind again.)
