Default new to EFI Live need some guidance.

i just purchased EFI Live from a board member on ls1tech. It didnt come with any instructions so im not too sure what im supposed to be doing. But im very eager to learn. So far i have a 98 ta with H/C/I & the tune i had before was done by ed wright, and now the current tune i have was a mail order by TSP. However i get some bucking and surging at low idle, also at low idle it seems like theres a misfire somewhere & i dont know if the scan tool will read it or not. So since there were no instructions on what to do can anyone direct me on where to start before i start messing with numbers & such. I appreciate it.

    thanks
    Jay

    Jay, welcome...

Install the software from here: http://www.efilive.com/download.aspx

First get the scantool and tunetool to run and connect.

Do you have FlashScan V1 (leds only) or V2 (leds and lcd)...?

Also read thru the AutoVE tutorial (further down on the downloads page).

i downloaded that link & i have the V1. so now i need to go connect it to the car?

also do i need to get a Wideband O2 before i start learning this. I plan on getting the LC1 but not til some time in the future unless i need it now.

i uploaded the tune and i get this error.

the currently loaded calibration contains one or more incorrect ETC tables.

Do not flash this calibration into a PCM that is to be used for ETC, or your PCM may be permanently inoperable.

    WTF Is this?

First -- before you do anything -- do each of these things:
    1. with the tunetool read the PCM and save it to a file, and make a backup copy.
    2. with the scantool make sure you can log good data from the PCM.
    3. spend time familiarizing yourself with the scantool and tunetool.
    4. spend time familiarizing yourself with the calibration file you're going to use/edit.

    You are trying to flash a calibration file that is not compatible with your PCM or has incorrect data in the electronic throttle control tables;
the software is protecting you against yourself...

Yes you will need a wideband, but first get the scantool/tunetool going.

Also, I don't know what car/mods/PCM you have....!?!?!

well i can connect via the scan and tune tool. but im not too sure on how to make a backup copy of the tune thats already on the car. When i first hooked it up to the car it flashed and uploaded some things. im assuming thats the tune if so i have it saved on my computer.

Open the tunetool, and do Flash->Read PCM Calibrations, then do File->Save As ans specify a filename.

Then write that file to some other place like CD/DVD.

But I don't know if you have a modded existing car, or a transplant car.

I don't follow what you said "it flashed and uploaded some things"... what did...?

You mean you read the cals from the PCM... save them to a file.
