    Default Vortec 454 CMPRET?

How many degrees is ok, vs not ok?

I can't get below -7.5 degrees, the dist cap is physically hitting the intake.

No fault, PCM is yelling at me about it. If no fault is the PCM compensating ok and I don't need to worry about it?

Or do I need to pull dist and move a tooth? I am not aware of the dist being removed ever.

i did the math on a 4.3L some time ago i do not remember it exactly but it was 25* anyway for one tooth.
those composite dizzys even from the general do not seem to always get you very close. timing chain slop could be a factor.
i have slotted the hold down hole to to get get them in line though.
have changed many leaking intake gaskets on vortec engs and much more than once forgot to remember to plug in the cmp until the cel came on. but had no start up or drivability problems. have seen cam retard in the teens with no cel . what problem are you chasing?

I'm playing with this at the moment as well Tom.
I have mine pretty well set at present but I want to see a log fom someone showing how the CMPRET moves around under normal driving conditions.
    How old's the dizzy Tom?
I just installed an Aluminium dizzy which seems like a much better unit than the OEM plastic version. Cost me $80 plus shipping...complete. MUCH better cap to.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
    DUCT TAPE.
IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

They used plastic? I can't see mine, it is buried back there on the 454. Yup, my CMPRET moves around a degree or 2. Let me dig up a datalog on it. I wouldn't think it should, unless it is the timing chain slack letting things vary as it runs.

To put a cap/rotor on the 454, it is almost all feel, very hard to see there, I can't imagine getting it out even. Intake off maybe.

What the hell were they thinking?
The aluminium unit is ALOT better.

Are they just older ones modded with new internals?

    Down Under or Up Yonder?

On the 454 no one would ever see it... But that doesn't stop you from doing it!
