i guess my question is if there is an extension cord (so to speak ) so you can use a desktop from my house. Ok maybe I'm a little cheap but i hate to buy another computer just to tune my truck.

A good USB extender will have like a USB amplifier in it (not the right term!). Just make sure you don't buy a 25ft USB cable and expect it to work, it must have some form of smarts in it to allow the USB signals to make it that far.

I think that should work, however, we've never tested it to say 100% yes. But it looks like it should be fine. For $29 you probably can't go wrong.
