Just got a v2with a black case. Heard they were a little different than a blue one and that when 03-05 Cummins is released that this One will not work.

That is correct. The difference between the Black and Blue units is a specific hardware change to support the SCI protocol used by the 2003 - 2005 Dodge Cummins. The Black device cannot support these vehicles.

I'm guessing your bought your Black V2 second hand. Units sold prior to December 2010 were black, units sold after that time are blue.

Yes, just bought it second hand. Is there any kind of "upgrade" available for the black ones for when the 03-05's are supported? All other features are the same?
The only other feature that come to my mind are that the blue case V2s have adjustable contrast. I highly doubt an upgrade to the black V2 hardware will be available, you'll need to purchase a blue V2 and have your licenses transferred to the new unit. I think EFILive quotes $499 for a Scan-only blue V2 (just need the physical hardware) + $99 license transfer charge and you have to pay for shipping to/from New Zealand (figure $50 each way).
If you plan to tune the 03-05 Cummins, Id recommend selling the black case V2 you have now and then buying either a used blue case or a new one. Figure its going to cost you $800 ($499+$99+$50+$50= ~$800) to upgrade from your currently black V2, might as well sell the existing one before you use any licenses and buy a new one for $899.

There is no upgrade path from black to blue units.
