VIN does not change after Full Reflash
I've noticed when reflashing my 12200411 PCM from a 2001 Trans Am to a 2001 Express Van, the VIN does not transfer with the reflash. Can someone explain this?
I also noticed that if I manually change the VIN, all the vehicle information follows. Where is this vehicles information coming from? Does the PCM have a database that retrieves this information?
Full reflashes with EFILive preserve the vin and crank angle data i think there is an option to not have it do this and rewrite the vin but the program isnt in front of me at the moment.
The vehicle information is know from the breakdown of the vin characters there is no database in the PCM Ross and Paul just know what vin digit corresponds to what type of vehicleinformation.
In Fbodys the Y vin digit (and I am not sure of the place) is for MY 2000 IIRC

It didnt keep my crank info or my vin when I upgraded even after it said it did... easy fix

You can set the VIN with the scan tool
I just went through this the other day. I flashed it 3 or 4 times trying to get the VIN to change then remember all I had to do was change it with the scan tool.
