Well, how long the SRS system is viable after removing power varies from mfg to mfg. In some, the SRS is dead after 30 seconds, others 45min-1 hour (Personally, I don't see the point of more than 15 seconds of backup power in ANY SRS system; You're NOT going to need SRS Deployment 15 minutes after power loss ). SOP should ALWAYS be to cut the battery cables before performing an extrication. As for disabling the SRS system for an Extrication, other than cutting the battery cables, the only other way would be with a mfg specific tool (Tech 2 for GM, for example) through the DLC, and in a wreck where you need to extricate victim(s), there's no guarantee you're going to be able to get at the DLC or that the data bus will be functional. Best bet is to be familiar with SRS system discharge times for various manfacturers and make SOP to cut the cables.
